All Senate Welcome 2018-2019

Welcome Letter

September 27, 2018

Dear Colleagues,

In advance of the October 16, 2018 Representative Assembly meeting, I would like to take the opportunity to remind you that all Senate members are invited to attend Representative Assembly meetings.  The Chancellor or the Executive Vice Chancellor addresses the Assembly each meeting and provides updates to the faculty on current topics of interest.  New graduate degree programs and modifications to Divisional Senate bylaws and regulations, which govern Senate operations and the curriculum, are presented for a vote by the Assembly.  Attending Representative Assembly meetings is a great way to stay informed and to participate in the UCSD educational community.

All meetings will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in in the Biomedical Sciences Building (BSB) in either Liebow Auditorium or in Garren Auditorium, on the dates below.

  • October 16, 2018 (Liebow Auditorium, Second Floor of the BSB)
  • December 4, 2018 (Liebow Auditorium, Second Floor of the BSB)
  • February 19, 2019 (Garren Auditorium, First Floor of the BSB)
  • April 16, 2019 (Garren Auditorium, First Floor of the BSB)
  • June 4, 2019 (Garren Auditorium, First Floor of the BSB)

Meeting agendas are posted on the Senate’s website five instructional days before each meeting.  The Senate’s website also provides information on the structure of the Senate, the work performed by Senate committees, and information on topics of interest to faculty.

Additionally, this year is the 150th Anniversary of the University of California (UC) and the systemwide UC Academic Senate. To commemorate this event, the UC Academic Senate is hosting an academic symposium on October 26th and 27th at The Waterfront Hotel in Oakland, California. As the Chair of the Senate, it is my responsibility and privilege to represent the interests of the faculty.  Accordingly, please feel free to contact me at academicsenatechair@ucsd.edu or call 4-3640 schedule time to speak with me or to meet with me in the Senate Office.
