Issues Under Review

Academic Council Chair Ahmet Palazoglu has requested the Senate’s review of proposed revisions to Systemwide Senate Bylaw 192 Preparatory Education and Senate Regulations 636 University of California Entry Level Writing Requirement and 761 Remedial Courses. The proposed changes update the bylaw of the University Committee on Preparatory Education (UCOPE) to clarify the committee’s duties and responsibilities, particularly its role in monitoring the development and use of placement processes in writing, mathematics, and other subject areas as appropriate. The revisions also update UCOPE’s oversight of the Entry Level Writing Requirement. 

A link to the proposal is provided in the Resources box. Faculty who wish to comment are welcome to do so. All comments received by May 1, 2026 will be included in the review materials for Senate Council consideration.
