Issues Under Review

Proposed Revisions to UC SVSH Investigation and Adjudication Framework
January 23, 2019

Dear Colleagues:

UC Vice Provost Susan Carlson has requested the Senate’s review of proposed revisions to the UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) Policy framework for conducting investigations and adjudicating cases. As indicated in the cover letter, the changes are mandated by the California State Auditor (CSA), and accomplish the following: 1) Require the Chancellor or Chancellor’s designee to consult with their campus Title IX Officer on discipline for faculty, staff, and non-faculty academic personnel found in violation of the SVSH Policy, and 2) require the Chancellor to issue a final decision about discipline for Senate faculty within 14 days of receiving a recommendation from the Privilege and Tenure Committee.

Feedback has been requested on the proposed changes only, not the policy overall, which has been reviewed by the Senate in the past.

The review materials include (1) the cover letter from Vice Provost Carlson, (2) a red-lined version of the policy for faculty, (3) a red-lined version of the policy for staff and non-faculty academics, and (4) excerpts from the CSA report. The document is bookmarked. A link to the review materials is provided in the resources box.

Faculty who wish to comment are welcome to do so. All comments received by February 22, 2019 will be included in the review materials for Senate Council consideration.
