Issues Under Review

Academic Council Chair Steven W. Cheung has requested the Senate’s review of proposed revisions to Senate Bylaw 170. Educational Policy and rescission of Senate Bylaw 192. Preparatory Education. The revisions eliminate the University Committee on Preparatory Education (UCOPE) and reassign its remaining duties to the University Committee on Educational Policy (UCEP), in recognition that most of UCOPE’s core functions have become redundant following structural changes in preparatory education oversight. With the discontinuation of the University’s Analytical Writing Placement Examination in 2022, individual campuses now manage their own placement assessments, reducing the need for a dedicated systemwide committee to handle this responsibility.
