Issues Under Review

Deputy Provost of Systemwide Academic Personnel Lee and Interim Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs and Academic Programs Haynes have requested the Senate’s review of proposed revisions to the Academic Personnel Manual (APM) Section 036, General University Policy Regarding Academic Appointees/Employment. The policy revisions are in response to a new California state law (AB 1905), effective January 1, 2025, that requires the University to adopt a written policy on official letters of recommendation, among other requirements, as a condition to receive state funding. Technical edits were also made to bring the University into compliance with the new law. 

A link to the policy is provided in the Resources box. Faculty who wish to comment are welcome to do so. All comments received by March 7, 2025 will be included in the review materials for Senate Council consideration.
