Issues Under Review

The Academic Planning Council’s Systemwide Academic Calendar Workgroup has submitted their draft report for Senate review. In September 2024, Provost Katherine Newman and systemwide Academic Senate Chair Steven Cheung formed a joint faculty and administrative Academic Planning Council workgroup to examine the current academic calendars and calendar features that can advance the University’s teaching, research, and public service mission. The workgroup is examining the question of whether UC should return to a common academic calendar, but it will not recommend one calendar over another. The draft report summarizes information on existing calendar features, an alternative quarter calendar, factors to consider before making any calendar changes, and optional common calendars to consider. 

A link to the report is provided in the Resources box. Faculty who wish to comment are welcome to do so. All comments received by May 2, 2025 will be included in the review materials for Senate Council consideration.
