ACADEMIC SENATE: SAN DIEGO DIVISION
November 30, 1999
The faculty and student committee members were dedicated to quality review of student applications and selection of scholarship recipients. The CUSH process is important to current and potential donors. Donors appreciate faculty committee review that provides expertise and a broad perspective in the selection process.
Student Affairs Development Office was successful in obtaining nine new scholarship funds, which were included in the 1998-1999 undergraduate scholarship review process.
Continuing Student Application: For 1998-1999, 750 applications were received. Students used the generic application to apply for several scholarship programs, each scholarship having different eligibility requirements. CUSH, therefore, reviews student applications multiple times. Due to the volume of applications, it was suggested that additional faculty members might be added to the committee to reduce the number of review hours per person.
Undergraduate Research Scholarship: It was suggested that, for the 1999-2000 CUSH, a faculty representative from the Biology Department might be added to the committee since 90% of the submitted research proposals were biology projects.
